Environmental Modifications
Environmental modification sessions focus on creating supportive, functional spaces within the home, such as bedrooms, play areas, and shared family living spaces. When adapting a space, we consider the individual needs of both the child and family to help support regulation, independence, and participation in daily routines. Environmental modification sessions can be incorporated into caregiver education sessions or can be purchased separately.
Environmental modification sessions are collaborative and practical, with an emphasis on real-life use within the home.
During these sessions, we may consider the following:
-
Positioning of the child to support attention, comfort, and engagement
-
Reducing or organizing visual distractions to support focus and calm
-
Access to toys and materials to encourage independence and purposeful play
-
Sensory considerations, such as lighting, noise levels, and textures in the space
-
Organization and layout of the room to support predictable routines and easier transitions
-
Safety and accessibility to promote confident exploration and movement
