Evaluations
Evaluation Part 1
A virtual 30-60 minute meeting between caregivers and the occupational therapist. This is an opportunity for the occupational therapist to learn more about family routines, concerns, and background.
Evaluation Part 2
The second part of the evaluation occurs in the child's home and lasts about 60 minutes. During this time the occupational therapist will learn more about the child through play interactions, standardized assessments, and conversation.
Evaluation Part 3
A virtual 60 minute meeting with caregivers to review assessment results, discuss goals, and create an individualized treatment plan.
Individual Sessions
Occupational therapy sessions will occur in the child's natural environment. This can include the home, parks, or schools. Sessions are 60 minutes in duration. The frequency of sessions will be determined during Part 3 of the evaluation in collaboration with caregivers. While every session is individualized for each child, there are a few therapy models that support the framework here at Connection First Therapy:
DIRFloortime®
DIR/Floortime is a child-centered therapy approach that helps kids develop social, emotional, and communication skills through play and interaction at their own developmental level.
Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment for the child. This includes simple practices like keeping routines predictable, offering choices to give the child a sense of control, staying calm and patient during big emotions, and building trusting relationships so the child feels secure and understood.
Sensory Integration
Sensory integration helps the brain organize and respond to sensory input, which supports a child’s ability to stay calm, focused, and regulated. In occupational therapy, sessions are tailored to each child’s unique sensory needs to help them participate more comfortably in daily activities.
